What questions will you carry into your new role?
I've been working with several leaders transitioning into new roles lately—some within the same company and several joining new executive teams.
There is a lot that goes into successful transitions. Understandably leaders want to make a positive impression and get ready for all the questions to come.
While the instinct might be to prepare answers, the most successful leaders start by curating their questions.
What questions will they carry into the first weeks/months that help reveal hidden truths and signal the importance of discernment, meaning-making, and listening?
What question do YOU suggest leaders take with them into a new role? As a leader, what questions helped you see the system (and your role in it) more clearly?
Let’s see if we can crowd-source a powerful set of questions for transitioning leaders in the comments below. These could be at the level of self, team, or broader system.
I'll start:
"What are you noticing at the moment that I'm unlikely to see or hear - but should know?"
